Martin County Clerk of Court: Records & Services

Need to look up a Martin County court case, read a criminal docket, request a divorce judgment, find a recorded deed or obtain a certified copy? The Martin County Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller maintains several separate records and service systems. Choosing the correct one will save you a lot of searching.

This guide covers the official Court Records and Official Records searches, older records, certified copies, public-record requests, court payments, foreclosure and tax deed information, marriage and passport services, and the Clerk’s Stuart, Hobe Sound and Indiantown office details.

Independent guide reviewed October 2026. Always confirm current access restrictions, fees, courthouse instructions and deadlines with the Clerk or court of record.

Start with the distinction: Court Records are for lawsuits and judicial cases. Official Records are for documents recorded with the county, such as deeds, mortgages and liens. Administrative public records, tax deed files and historical recorded documents have additional search or request routes.
Find the correct system first

Which Martin County Clerk Record Do You Need?

Search court indexes, case information, dockets and available non-confidential filing images.

Open Court Records tab

Search recorded instruments using party names, dates, book/page references and Clerk file numbers.

Official Records information
Historical Records Older deeds and recorded documents

Separate historical indexes contain recorded instruments from before January 1, 1986.

Historical Records tab
Tax Deed Files Tax deed sale and property auction records

Search tax deed files and review the Clerk’s tax sale information.

Tax deed instructions

How to Search Martin County Court Cases by Name or Case Number

The Clerk’s Court Records system covers available civil, criminal, domestic relations, probate, special services and traffic case information. It can display case indexes, docket events and non-confidential document images.

01Find Search
02Enter Details
03Review Docket
04Get Document
  1. Open the official records directory. Visit Martin County Clerk — Records Search.
  2. Choose Court Records. Select the Online search link under the Court Records tab to enter the Clerk’s court records system.
  3. Review access notices. Read any disclaimer, search instructions or account requirements presented by the court system.
  4. Search by case number when known. Use the full number appearing on a notice, summons, citation or court filing.
  5. For a name search, enter accurate party information. Use the person or business name and narrow the result with the available case-type or date filters.
  6. Open the likely result. Compare the names, case number, filing date, division and case category rather than trusting the first matching surname.
  7. Read the docket or case events. Look for orders, hearings, filings, judgments, dismissals and later updates.
  8. Open available images. Where the portal provides a non-confidential document image, review the actual filing.
  9. Use the Court Records Request procedure when necessary. Not all documents or cases are accessible remotely.
Practical search tip: when you identify the correct case, save both the case number and court division. Those details help the Clerk find a missing filing or prepare a certified copy.

What court categories can appear?

Criminal Cases

Felony, misdemeanor and eligible criminal-case information. Check the disposition rather than assuming that filing a charge means conviction.

Civil Cases

Complaints, motions, hearings, orders and civil judgments. Case availability depends on record and access rules.

Family / Domestic Relations

Divorce and related proceedings. Certain documents may contain confidential or protected information.

Probate

Estate and probate proceedings. Some protected-person or guardianship records can be restricted.

Traffic

Citation and court-case information when maintained by the Clerk’s court system.

Special Services

Additional court matters managed through the Clerk’s official case services, subject to applicable records rules.

Access is not unlimited: sealed, confidential, restricted or protected judicial records may not be visible to public users. The Clerk’s Registered User procedure does not eliminate statutory confidentiality requirements.

Registered User Access

Martin County offers a registration process for users seeking additional permitted electronic record access. Attorney and Party to a Case roles require notarization of the Registration Agreement; the ordinary Registered User role does not require notarization according to the Clerk’s current online instructions.

  1. Open the Online Services and Alerts page.
  2. Choose Online Court Records Search registration.
  3. Download the Registration Agreement PDF.
  4. Choose the appropriate role and complete the required sections.
  5. Have the form notarized if applying as an Attorney or Party to a Case.
  6. Submit the completed agreement to subscriptions@martinclerk.com.
  7. Follow the Clerk’s account approval and access instructions.

Search Martin County Official Records: Deeds, Mortgages, Liens & Judgments

As the county recorder, the Clerk records, indexes and maintains documents creating Martin County Official Records. The online index for modern recordings begins with January 1, 1986 and Book 660.

Official Records search — micro-steps

  1. Open Martin County Records Search.
  2. Select the Official Records tab.
  3. Choose the Online Official Records search.
  4. Search by the grantor/grantee or party name, or use a known recording reference.
  5. Compare recording dates, document type, Clerk File Number and Book/Page references.
  6. Open the recorded document image where available.
  7. For a certified copy, use the E-Certify route or contact Official Records.
InformationWhat it meansWhy it matters
Grantor / GranteeNames of parties associated with the recorded instrument.Helps locate deeds, mortgages or other recorded documents.
Recording dateDate the Clerk recorded the instrument.Useful for locating transactions in an approximate year.
Book and pageTraditional recording reference.Especially helpful for older and historical records.
Clerk File NumberIdentifier associated with the recorded document. Can help retrieve or verify a particular instrument.
Document typeDeed, mortgage, satisfaction, lien or other instrument category.Avoids confusing similarly named documents.
Property research tip: a recording search alone does not guarantee clear title, determine the assessed property value or verify zoning. The Clerk records documents; title examination and property assessment involve additional legal or government processes.

New document recording fees

The Clerk publishes a standard recording charge of $10 for the first page and $8.50 for each additional page for qualifying instruments, with an additional $1 for each name indexed beyond four. Documentary stamp tax, intangible tax or document-specific charges may also apply.

Review the official recording fee details and preparation rules.

Before submitting a deed: check the Clerk’s recording requirements for preparer information, printed signatory and witness names, address information, acknowledgement and any required taxes. A recorder’s acceptance is not legal advice about whether the instrument achieves the intended transfer.
Historical document retrieval

Martin County Historical Records Before 1986

The Clerk maintains a separate digitized index for Official Records recorded before January 1, 1986, including Books 659 and earlier. Many images and selected historical record books are available, while others require further review or retrieval.

  1. Open the Clerk’s Records Search directory.
  2. Select Historical Records rather than the modern Official Records tab.
  3. Open the historical online index.
  4. Search available names, book/page or other index references.
  5. Record the book and page number associated with the correct entry.
  6. View the document if its image is available.
  7. If the image is unavailable, contact Official Records at 772-288-5551 or OfficialRecords@martinclerk.com.
Local records detail: Martin County is continuing to digitize and review its historical collection. Some images await statutory redaction review, so an indexed document may not yet have a viewable online image.

Searching older plat maps

Plats and maps recorded on or after March 24, 2017 are included in the current Official Records system. Older plats use a separate historical plat service and associated Plat, Right of Way and State Road indexes.

Use the Official Records tab and select the appropriate newer or older Plat Records route. When contacting the Clerk, provide the plat name and book/page information if you have it.

How to Request Martin County Court or Official Records

For court files held by the Clerk, the official written request process follows Florida Rule of General Practice and Judicial Administration 2.420(m)(1). Administrative records and other public records may use a different Chapter 119 process.

In person: first floor, Courthouse Constitutional Office Building, 100 SE Ocean Boulevard, Stuart, FL 34994.

Privacy point: the Clerk notes that requests and any contact information provided may themselves be public records. For judicial record access, follow the court-specific rules rather than assuming every Chapter 119 procedure applies identically.

Administrative public-record requests

For administrative, financial or payroll records held by the Clerk, a formal written request is not always required. The Clerk’s policy waives the first 30 minutes of administrative review time. If extensive staff time is necessary, the published standard rate is $28.10 per hour for requests not requiring specialized technical or legal review, and the Clerk provides a cost estimate when applicable.

The Clerk generally prefers electronic delivery when possible to reduce copying expense. Requests held by Martin County government departments outside the Clerk’s custody may require a separate county-agency public-records request.

If the search isn’t working

No Martin County Clerk Record Found? Troubleshooting

Wrong search category

A recorded deed belongs in Official Records, not the court docket. A lawsuit belongs in Court Records, even if its judgment was later recorded.

Older recorded instrument

Pre-1986 documents are found through Historical Records, not only the modern Official Records index.

Unavailable document image

Some entries are indexed but images remain under review or unavailable electronically.

Name formatting

Try verified variations and change one filter at a time rather than using increasingly broad unrelated searches.

Restricted court filing

Some confidential, sealed, juvenile or protected-party records cannot be accessed remotely by the public.

Different record custodian

Property assessments, tax certificates and certain county departmental records are maintained by agencies other than the Clerk.

Important if you have a deadline: a missing online record does not prove that a hearing was cancelled, a judgment was vacated or a payment was processed. Confirm the matter with the Clerk or responsible court division.
