Escambia County FL Clerk of Court: Records & Services

Looking for an Escambia County court case, a Pensacola property deed, a certified judgment, a marriage record, or a way to pay a traffic ticket? The Clerk offers several different record and payment services, but the correct search depends on the type of document you need.

Court cases are searched through the Clerk’s CourtView system. Recorded documents such as deeds, mortgages, liens and other instruments are searched through Landmark Web. Copies and older files may require the Public Records Center, while recording and marriage services have their own office in downtown Pensacola.

Temporary office notice — October 2026: the official Clerk website currently announces a weather-related closure starting Thursday, October 8 at 2 p.m. and continuing through Friday, October 9, 2026. Check the Clerk’s live homepage before visiting. Regular hours listed below do not override emergency closures.

Which Escambia County Clerk Records Search Should You Use?

The Clerk maintains several public record collections. Although some documents overlap in subject matter, a court case index, an Official Records index and the Board of County Commissioners’ records are not interchangeable.

Public case lookup

How to Search Escambia County Court Records by Name or Case Number

Escambia’s official CourtView search lets you look for a court case using a name, uniform case number, citation number or agency-related identifier. It is especially useful when you need to locate a filing, check its case status or identify the court division.

1. OpenOfficial CourtView
2. ChooseName or identifier
3. SearchMatch the exact case
4. VerifyDocket and court details
  1. Open the official court-records portal. Use Escambia County CourtView.
  2. Choose one search method. The portal shows separate fields for Last Name / Company and First Name, Uniform Case Number, Citation Number, or Agency Number.
  3. Enter the available information. Use a correct name and select a case type when helpful, or enter the exact identifying number.
  4. Keep the official number format. If searching by uniform case number, CourtView specifically instructs that all spaces and all zeroes are required. Its example format is 2000 CA 001234.
  5. Keep citation dashes. CourtView says citation numbers must retain the dashes shown in the citation, such as its example 1234-ABC.
  6. Review possible matches. Check names, case type, filing information and any other public details before opening a record.
  7. Read the available case history. Review docket events, hearings, charges, orders, judgments and disposition information when displayed.
  8. Save the case number. You will need it to request official copies or ask a court division about a missing filing.
Do not copy formatting rules from another county: some Florida court portals accept shortened case numbers. Escambia CourtView expressly requires the spaces and leading zeroes in its uniform case-number search. An incorrectly formatted number can produce an avoidable no-result screen.

What if you only know the person’s name?

Start with the legal surname and given name. If multiple results appear, narrow by the case type and use contextual clues such as the filing year, court division and other available identifiers. Do not assume a case belongs to someone solely because a common name matches.

Case search is informational: CourtView’s own disclaimer states that its online results are not the official court record. For certified or legally consequential information, obtain the record directly from the Clerk.
Remote case document access

Can You View Escambia County Court Document Images Online?

Escambia County offers general public access to court case information without requiring registration. Additional access may be available to qualified registered users, parties, attorneys of record and certain government agencies, consistent with Florida’s electronic court-record access standards.

General public case viewing

  1. Open the official Court Records Search Registration page.
  2. Choose the public court-record search link.
  3. Enter the case number, last and first name, or citation number.
  4. Complete the CAPTCHA before submitting.
  5. Read the case results and view the public documents offered to your access level.

Requesting enhanced access

  1. Review the role descriptions on the Clerk’s registration page.
  2. Determine whether you qualify as a party, attorney of record, government official or another approved category.
  3. Download the Clerk’s Registration Agreement to View Court Records Online form.
  4. Complete the form with the requested identity and eligibility details.
  5. Return it using the submission instructions included by the Clerk.
  6. Access only the records permitted under your assigned role.
Access is not universal: sealed, expunged and confidential records remain subject to Florida laws, rules and court orders. Registration does not grant unrestricted access to protected court files.

For technical registration questions, the Clerk’s Technology Department lists (850) 595-0168.

Recorded documents and property research

How to Search Escambia County Official Records for Deeds, Mortgages & Liens

The Clerk records instruments required or permitted by law, including deeds, mortgages, liens, judgments, plats and powers of attorney. The current online Official Records platform is Landmark Web.

Search by NameLook for recorded instruments indexed under a person or business.
Search by Instrument NumberFind a record using its Clerk file number.
Search by Book & PageRetrieve documents using an existing recording reference.
Search by Record DateLook within the period when an instrument was recorded.
Search by Document TypeFind relevant kinds of instruments when the category is known.
Legal Description SearchUse available legal-description fields for property research.

Official step-by-step Landmark Web search

  1. Go to Escambia County Landmark Web Official Records Search.
  2. Review the entry screen and select the relevant search function.
  3. Choose the information you already have: party name, instrument number, book/page, document type, recording date or legal description.
  4. Enter the available fields. For a name, consider relevant spelling variations where the portal permits.
  5. Compare recorded results by document category, parties, date and identifying number.
  6. Open the available record information or image.
  7. Save the instrument number or book/page reference if you need a certified copy.
Older deeds: the Clerk separately identifies historical deed books from 1820 through 1982. If a historical instrument is unavailable in the modern search, check the historical deed-book index or ask the Official Records office.

Recording a new deed or mortgage

Recording a document is different from searching for one. The Clerk provides recording forms, eRecording information and calculators for deed or mortgage recording fees and applicable documentary stamp or intangible taxes.

  1. Open the Official Records Information and Forms page.
  2. Identify the document being recorded, such as a deed, satisfaction of mortgage, notice of commencement or lien.
  3. Review the format, execution and witnessing/notary requirements applicable to that instrument.
  4. Use the Clerk’s recording fee calculator where applicable.
  5. Confirm the amount and authorized submission method with Official Records staff.
  6. Submit the properly executed original or approved electronic recording through the accepted route.
Ownership caution: recording an instrument does not guarantee marketable title or resolve all property disputes. The Official Records index is not the same as a title opinion, parcel assessment record or title-insurance examination.
Paper records and authenticated copies

Escambia County Court Records Copies, Certification & Historical Archives

The Clerk’s Public Records Center manages court records, historical records, marriage records and certain Board of County Commissioners files. It is the relevant place to start when you cannot obtain a document through an ordinary online search.

Official records request steps

  1. Open the Escambia Public Records Center page.
  2. Choose the Request for Copies or Viewing of Court Records form linked on the page.
  3. Enter the case number and the names of the parties.
  4. Identify the exact document or document title requested.
  5. State whether you need an ordinary copy or a certified copy.
  6. If you are a party requesting unredacted or confidential information, follow the identification requirements listed by the Clerk.
  7. Submit the request through the form’s prescribed process and confirm copying, certification or mailing fees before payment.

Need a hearing transcript?

The Clerk directs requests for transcripts of court hearings or trials to the Office of the Circuit Court Reporter, phone (850) 595-4409. A docket entry or copy of a filed order is not the same as a verbatim hearing transcript.

Citations and driver obligations

Escambia County Traffic Tickets: Payment, Driver School & Court Hearings

Many civil traffic citations can be resolved without appearing in court, but you may have different choices depending on the violation, your eligibility and whether you want to contest the ticket.

The Clerk says you generally have 30 calendar days after a civil traffic citation is issued to make the applicable election or payment.

Pay the citation

Use the Clerk’s payment instructions and confirm the correct amount before submitting.

Pay and elect a driver course

Eligible motorists may be able to elect an approved basic driver improvement course under Florida law.

Contest the ticket

Follow the official hearing-request procedure within the applicable deadline.

Request a payment plan

Check the Clerk’s payment-plan terms if you cannot pay a qualifying citation in full.

What to do before paying

  1. Open the official Escambia Traffic Citations page.
  2. Read the ticket to determine whether it is a civil infraction or a criminal traffic charge.
  3. Review the payment, driver improvement and hearing choices.
  4. Check the deadline, usually 30 days for the civil traffic options described by the Clerk.
  5. If electing driver school, make the election when and how the Clerk requires.
  6. If contesting, submit the hearing request through the official instructions instead of assuming nonpayment creates a court date.
  7. Save your receipt, election or filing confirmation.
Suspended license warning: the Clerk states that a late online payment does not automatically reinstate or prevent a driver’s license suspension. A clearance document may have to be presented to the applicable licensing office. Do not assume the payment receipt by itself completes reinstatement.

For a qualifying payment plan, use the official Payment Plans page. The Clerk also lists traffic-payment assistance through its Traffic Division at (850) 595-4360.

Marriage licenses and certified records

How to Apply for a Marriage License in Escambia County

The Clerk issues marriage licenses and provides marriage ceremony services. License applications and certified copies of existing marriage records are different services with different requirements.

Marriage license without premarital course

The Clerk currently publishes a license fee of $86.

With eligible premarital course

The Clerk lists a reduced license fee of $61 when qualifying course requirements are met.

Marriage ceremony

The Clerk lists $30 for an appointment-based ceremony.

License validity

The license is valid for 60 days and is for a marriage ceremony performed in Florida.

Apply step by step

  1. Open Escambia Clerk — Marriage Licenses.
  2. Read the age, identification, residency and waiting-period requirements.
  3. Complete the official marriage license application.
  4. Schedule the appointment using the Clerk’s instructions.
  5. Both applicants should appear with the required identification and completed documents.
  6. Bring qualifying premarital course certificates if seeking the reduction and applicable waiting-period waiver.
  7. Pay the applicable fee and check the license’s effective and expiration dates before scheduling the ceremony.
Florida waiting period: when either applicant is a Florida resident, a three-day waiting period generally applies unless an eligible waiver is available. When neither applicant resides in Florida, the Clerk lists no waiting period.

How to get an existing marriage record

Use the Public Records Center marriage-record request process. The Clerk asks for the year of marriage and the full names of both parties. It lists $1 for an ordinary copy and $3 for a certified marriage-license copy.

Escambia County Court vs. Circuit Court: Where Is Your Case Filed?

Escambia County is part of Florida’s First Judicial Circuit. The Clerk supports both County Court and Circuit Court operations, but those courts handle different kinds of cases.

Court / divisionTypical mattersWhat it means for your search
Circuit Civil Larger civil disputes, certain foreclosures, personal injury and other matters within circuit jurisdiction. Confirm the case type and parties in CourtView; the general civil monetary threshold follows Florida law.
County Civil Civil claims within county jurisdiction, eviction, landlord-tenant and related cases. Use County Civil rather than Circuit Civil when appropriate.
Small Claims Qualifying small civil claims generally up to $8,000, excluding applicable additions. These may appear as a separate case category.
Felony Criminal Felony prosecutions and related criminal proceedings. Look for criminal case events and disposition, not merely the initial charge.
Misdemeanor / County Criminal Misdemeanors and eligible county criminal matters. Search the relevant county criminal category.
Family / Probate / Juvenile Divorce, support, estates, guardianships and protected juvenile matters. Public display and document-image access vary according to confidentiality rules.
Florida civil jurisdiction: for covered actions filed on or after January 1, 2023, the general County Court jurisdictional limit is $50,000, subject to statutory exceptions. Do not rely on outdated $15,000 or $30,000 descriptions of county civil jurisdiction.
