Placer County CA Superior Court: Case Search & Records
Want to look up a Placer County criminal case, find a civil lawsuit by name, check a family-law docket, locate a probate filing, pay a traffic citation or request a certified judgment? The Placer County Superior Court Online Portal is the first place to check.
The Court offers public case searches without requiring an account. However, viewing a case summary, opening electronic documents, inspecting a paper file and obtaining a certified copy are separate activities. Access depends on the case type, privacy rules and how the original file is stored.

See file-viewing policyHow to Search Placer County Superior Court Cases Online
The Court’s public portal supports searching by case number or party information. A name search is useful when you do not know the number, but you should verify every result rather than trusting a shared name alone.
- Open the public portal. Visit the Court’s Online Case Access page, then select the portal link. You can also access Placer eCourt Public Portal directly.
- Review and accept the disclaimer. The Court explains that online information is informational and is not the official certified court record.
- Select Search for a Case. Public basic case searching does not require an account.
- Choose the available search method. If you have the case number, use it. Otherwise enter the party’s last and first name, company name or available filing-date information.
- Check the filed-date filter. Placer’s search guidance warns that the filing-date range must include the case’s original filing date. A range that only covers a recent hearing may return no result.
- Open a possible match. Compare case number, case type, name, filing year and available court events. If several people share a name, do not assume the first result is correct.
- Read the available case activity. Review filings, hearing dates, judgments, orders, dispositions and later docket entries.
- Check document-access options. Some public images can be opened online; additional documents may be accessible to authorized parties and attorneys only.
- Keep the case number and exact document title. Use these when requesting copies, contacting the clerk or attending court.

How to Inspect Court Files in Person — and Why Some Files Are Temporarily Unavailable
Placer Superior Court permits inspection of public case files under its records policy. However, you cannot freely remove documents from the clerk’s office or take a case file apart.
Request files at the clerk’s counter and inspect them at the designated table or another place directed by staff. Identification and other items may be held by the clerk under the Court’s file-viewing procedure.
Files that are on calendar are unavailable for public viewing for two days before and three days after the hearing under the Court’s published policy.
Files located off site may take up to three weeks to retrieve. The Court advises calling before returning to inspect or copy a file.
How many case files can you inspect at once?
| File category | Normal simultaneous file limit | Exception |
|---|---|---|
| Civil / Family Law / Probate | 5 | 50 if requested in chronological order. |
| Small Claims | 5 | 50 if requested in chronological order. |

Placer County Traffic Ticket Search, Payment & Court Options
The Court’s traffic portal is intended for eligible citations and offers several ways to respond, depending on the violation and whether a court appearance is mandatory.
- Open the official Placer Traffic Division page.
- Use the Online Portal to find your case number or citation number.
- Review whether the citation requires a mandatory appearance. Do not assume every ticket can be paid online.
- If eligible, select the appropriate option: Pay Fine, Traffic School, extension, court trial or Trial by Written Declaration.
- If you cannot afford the fine, use the Court’s Can’t Afford to Pay or MyCitations process to request a fine reduction, more time, community service or a payment plan where available.
- Complete the portal instructions and keep confirmation details.
How to Order a Placer Superior Court Hearing Transcript or Audio Recording
A docket or minute order records that a hearing occurred. A transcript records the spoken proceedings when a reporter or authorized electronic recording exists. The ordinary file-copy process is not the correct route for court-reporter transcripts.
Reporter transcript request
- Open the Court’s Court Reporter Transcripts page.
- Prepare the case name, number, judge, department, hearing date and type of proceeding.
- Identify the court reporter if known. The minute order may contain the reporter’s name.
- Submit the Court’s online Transcript Request form or follow the listed phone/mail/fax instructions.
- Allow approximately three business days for the Court to process the request and contact you about cost and availability.
- If urgently needed, mark the request RUSH and confirm whether an expedited service charge will apply.
Electronic audio recording
For eligible electronically recorded proceedings, the Court also provides a Request for Copy of Audio Recording of Court Proceedings (PL-CW016). The Court lists a $10 fee for a CD of an available electronic recording and requires advance payment under its instructions.
